Former world No 1 Tiger Woods experienced a difficult day at the office but did just enough to remain in the hunt thanks to an opening 73 at The Masters.
Playing in his first event for two months and without a victory since August 2013, it was anything but plain sailing for the four-time winner at Augusta.
Woods never looked at ease as he reached the turn in 37, following three bogeys and a brace of birdies.
Things settled down on the back nine which produced seven pars, as he ended the day nine off the pace and in a tie-for-41st.
Woods confessed he struggled to cope with the slow greens and admitted: “I made two dumb mistakes. The worst was my second shot into the bunker at nine.
"Our entire group was really struggling on the greens. We were talking about how slow they were today. We had a hard time hitting the putts hard enough."
Woods is joined at one-over-par by Rickie Fowler, Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter among others.
