Jordan Spieth reflects on last week's defeat to Dustin Johnson ahead of the Dell Technologies Championship

Jordan Spieth is putting thoughts about the FedExCup title to one side as he bids to bounce back from his near-miss at The Northern Trust in Boston this week.

Johnson overturned a five-shot deficit at the Glen Oaks Club last week to beat Spieth at the first extra hole, seeing the world No 1 move top of the FedExCup standings ahead of the Dell Technologies Championship.

Spieth is a three-time winner in 2017 and a former winner of the FedExCup, with the Open champion refusing to dwell on last week's play-off disappointment as he aims to continue his strong campaign.

"I went up against another guy I consider the best in the world (Johnson), and we had a good battle," Spieth said. "It went his way.

"I think there's a couple times he's battled against me he wished it went his way and this is one I wish went my way. I was over it that night.

"The second-place points put me in a position where I am likely to stay in the top five (heading into the final event of the season), which is a really good thing. It takes any added pressure off of these next couple of events.

"I'm not thinking much about the FedExCup. There's not a whole lot I can do for myself at this point other than if I could take care of business here, you jump one spot."

Johnson won three consecutive events during the early part of the year, although is playing down his chances of producing a similar string of results in the season-ending finale.

"I'd love to say, yeah, I'm going to win all four, but the odds are not in my favour," Johnson said. "I think I'm probably guaranteed to be in the top five going into Atlanta, which is where you want to be.

"Obviously this week is another big week. I want to play really well and I feel like the game is in really good form.

"I finally feel like I'm swinging really well. I'm doing everything very well right now, which is what I'm trying to do leading into Atlanta."
