Harry Ellis makes Masters entrance with drive down Magnolia Lane

Harry Ellis

Harry Ellis described his first drive down Magnolia Lane as a dream come true, as the English amateur makes his Masters debut at the famed Augusta National.

The 22-year-old secured a coveted spot in the field courtesy of his British Amateur Championship title last summer and joins eight fellow Englishmen hoping for a successful week.

Ellis is one of six amateurs in the field for the first major of the year, live on Sky Sports Golf, and has already spoken of his honour to play on the pristine course in Georgia.

"The only way I can put it is you have to see it with your own eyes," Ellis said. "To be able to drive down [Magnolia] Lane this week is extremely special and something I have always dreamed of doing.

"It is amazing and the feeling you get every time down Magnolia Lane is incredible. Obviously there is a lot of rich history to this tournament and hopefully we can be part of it this week. This for me is so special.

England will have nine representatives at the Masters, including one former champion, last year's runner-up and Augusta's Mr Consistent.

"When you step out in front of the club and you see the whole course there is nothing else like it in golf.

"That is why it has such an iconic history and there have been so many historical and memorable moments that have happened throughout the tournament."

Ellis comes into the tournament in confident mood but whatever the outcome of his first visit is excited about his "big future" in the sport.

"It was always important after winning the [British] Amateur [Championship] to really kick on and I have had a couple of college wins," Ellis added.

"I have generally played quite nice over the last nine months so If I can play good here it would be great. If not I am still happy with the way I am moving. I feel like I have got a big future ahead of me."
