Davis Love III's side raced into a 4-0 lead after the Friday foursomes, with passionate pair Patrick Reed and Jordan Spieth leading from the front and making a fast start.

Europe responded by claiming three of the four matches in the fourballs, with Rory McIlory and Thomas Pieters winning their first of three matches together, while Spanish pair Sergio Garcia and Rafa Cabrera Bello also picked up a point.
