Surrey Heat stormed to a comprehensive 106-45 victory over the Mersey Tigers in their BBL Championship opener. New signing Samuel Cricelli led the way with 21 points, while Frank Holmes poured in 18 points and Martelle McLemore 16 for the victors. Chris Bigley (13) was the only member of the visitors' line-up who managed double figures. In Saturday's other game was a much more closely contested affair as the Durham Wildcats edged past the Worcester Wolves 82-76. Eighteen points apiece from Mike Baldarelli and Dave Elderkin spurred the visitors, with Alex Owumi's game-high 24-point haul not enough for the Wolves.
