Charlotte Hornets forward Jeffrey Taylor has been banned for 24 games for his role in a domestic violence incident.

Taylor has missed the first 11 games of the season after being suspended by his franchise, but he will now miss an additional 13 games, this time without pay.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver issued a statement on Wednesday saying Taylor's ban will amount to a financial penalty equivalent of 24 games.

Taylor was charged with domestic assault in September after an altercation with a woman he was in a relationship with - he was also charged with assaulting a hotel security officer (that charge was later dismissed) and for one count of malicious destruction of hotel property.

He pled guilty to the two remaining charges and was sentenced to 18 months' probation - he must spend 26 weeks in a domestic violence intervention programme.

Silver said in a statement: "This suspension is necessary to protect the interests of the NBA and the public's confidence in it.

"Mr. Taylor's conduct violates applicable law and, in my opinion, does not conform to standards of morality and is prejudicial and detrimental to the NBA.
