Wasps Netball continue perfect start to Vitality netball Superleague
Tuesday 13 March 2018 23:11, UK
Wasps Netball made it seven consecutive wins to remain unbeaten in the Vitality Superleague as they eked out a hard-fought win against Severn Stars in a local derby.
It was Wasps' first game without Natalie Haythornthwaite and Jade Clarke, who have travelled with England Roses to compete at the Commonwealth Games, but Tamsin Greenway's team still did enough to run out 54-43 winners against their West Midlands rivals at the Ricoh Arena.
Greenway admitted it was not easy after playing their second game in the space of three days, following their emphatic victory over Team Northumbria on Saturday night, but praised her team's character.
"It wasn't pretty tonight, but a win is a win," Greenway told Wasps' official website. "It felt like everything was going against us at times tonight, mostly of our own doing but to get the win in those circumstances is still great.
"Of course we missed Natalie and Jade. They are both world class, but we prepared for that and I don't think there's many teams in this league that could lose two starting players and still perform like that.
"The opposition defended very well, we didn't have it all our own way. We got the early lead, but we let them back in and it got a bit edgy, but we pulled through."
Vitality Superleague is back on your screens next Friday night when UWS Sirens host Severn Stars, with live coverage on Sky Sports Mix, which you can find on channel 287, and is free for all Sky customers, from 7.15pm.
Wasps' next fixture sees them take on Celtic Dragons on Sunday as they look to make it eight wins from eight games before the mid-season break for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.
