George Fisher netball diary: Saracens Mavericks star prepares to play former team Wasps

Monday, 6.45pm, live on Sky Sports Action and Mix

George Fisher's Mavericks Diary

I'm now looking forward to the fixture against my old team Wasps.

It will be an interesting match-up. It will be weird being back at The Ricoh Arena, my home for the past two years. It's always hard going up against your old team but I'm sure the fans will be as lovely as they've always been.

Obviously we've trained together for the past two years so will be familiar with each other's play but that's just training -it's going to be a totally different ball game with competitive play!

It's funny but everyone says that Fran Williams and I always go harder on each other than anyone else, which is strange as she's one of my closest friends but sport is sport and she'll often say to me on court after she's come in hard for a ball "could have taken you out then" and I'll say "but you didn't!"

It's always a good battle but only ever on court!

It was probably the hardest ever decision I've had to make leaving Wasps last season, not only leaving an awesome team of girls but also who would leave the two-time title-winning champions, right?

Sometimes, you have to do what's right for you and I felt that I needed to move to gain more experience and grow my own game.

Paul Scholes talks about his appreciation of netball

I learnt so much at Wasps, Tamsin is an amazing coach and her passion for the game is infectious. But it just felt natural to come home to Mavericks, the place where it all began.

I'm at Herts Uni and have a house two minutes from the Sports Centre so logistically it's perfect. It's so important being coached by different coaches, having Kat and Camilla at Mavs, Mel at Uni and the Titmuss' at Turnford I have been able to mix up all of the different styles and skills and bring them into my game.

I'm really enjoying watching us gel on court and improve game on game. I'm confident that we have the right game plan in place and it will be a fantastic match-up.
