Goodbye Georgie!

Sky Sports News has bid a fond farewell to presenter Georgie Thompson after more than a decade.

Emotional last day as Thompson moves on to F1 channel

Sky Sports News has bid a fond farewell to presenter Georgie Thompson after more than a decade on our screens. Georgie, who leaves the channel to work on Sky Sports' Formula 1 coverage, completed her final shift at 7pm on Thursday evening and was treated to a surprise phone call from Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp live on air. Fellow presenter Jim White burst on to the set to present her with a bouquet of flowers and her Twitter page was inundated with good luck messages from fellow presenters and fans including TV star Piers Morgan, pop singer Olly Murs and former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan. She said: "I feel very sad to be leaving Sky Sports News, they are a great team that does amazing work and I'm proud to be part of the channel's growth and success. "I have many happy memories to take with me to Sky Sports F1 HD, it's a new challenge and a very exciting one. My last shift on Sky Sports News was very emotional, I wasn't expecting a good luck message from Harry, the flowers, nor my Twitter page to crash! "I won't be moving far, just two floors where the F1 production team sit in Sky Studios. Thank you all!" Her colleagues made sure she was given a memorable goodbye by playing out her screentest from early 2001, her first shift on the channel from May 2001 and a clip of her dancing to the Cheeky Girls that had never before been shown on air. Punters at the PDC World Darts Champs at Alexandra Palace also held up signs to our cameras saying 'Goodbye Georgie Thompson' and 'I love Georgie Thompson.'
