The Course

Hopeman Golf Club can be found between Aberdeen and Inverness on the coast of the Moray Firth. The course, originally established in 1909 as a 9-hole course, was later extended to 18-holes in 1985. Today, Hopeman Golf Club, which could be described as a hidden gem, is considered to be one of the most challenging courses, added to by the gorse and broom that lines most fairways, and the burn that runs from the 6th tee.

Hopeman GC is home to one of the best Par 3s I have ever played. At first look the hole has a very picturesque backdrop with breathtaking views of the open Sea. The layout of the hole itself is special, as it runs straight downhill towards a sunken green surrounded by banks that are covered in whins. No matter what club you go for, once you strike your tee shot the ball hangs in the air for what seems like ages before hitting the green. I used to play the course most weekends as a boy, with my Father and Brother, so have always loved it from my early years.

The Hole

The 12th hole at Hopeman Golf Club, named The Prieshach, is undoubtedly the club’s signature hole, and considered by many as one of the best par 3’s in the country. Only 150 yards long, the uniqueness of this hole is that the green lies over 100 feet below the tee in the Clashach Cove. The incredible panoramic views across Moray Firth that golfers are faced with are unparalleled – especially on days where bottle nosed dolphins can be spotted in the waters close to the shore. Golf in The Highlands

The Highlands is home to a fine collection of golf courses, from championship venues to historic links, all set against the spectacular Northern scenery.

Situated in the heart of the Highland capital, Inverness Golf Club, is a fantastic parkland course that challenges golfers of all levels. However many courses lie on the Moray Coast, from Castle Stuart Golf Links which recently held The Scottish Open, to The Old Course at Moray Golf Club in Lossiemouth.

Further North, you’ll find the famous Royal Dornoch Golf Club a links classic, located in a remote and timeless setting that only adds to its charm. Or for something a little different, Durness Golf Club on the north coast, is a 9-hole easy-going course featuring a finishing hole that involves playing a shot across the Atlantic!

The 19th Hole and Beyond

Off the course, in the coastal village of Hopeman you’ll find two beautiful sandy beaches which feature visitor attractions such as preserved dinosaur footprints, and the Bramou Well, said to have healing properties.
