Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley aspires to perform like his idol Adrian Peterson, and believes the two share the same mindset. In an excerpt from the latest Touchdown magazine, Gurley talks about his admiration for the seven time Pro Bowler.
Preparing for his, and the NFL's Twickenham debut this Sunday, Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley is in confident mood. His team face the New York Giants, who hold an identical 3-3 record. Gurley has three touchdowns so far this season, and believes he shares similarities with another great rusher, who has praised him in the past.
"It definitely means a lot to be compared to Adrian Peterson, that's the standard for running backs," said Gurley, speaking with Touchdown magazine.
"Just growing up and watching him play, everybody wanted to play like AP. So I appreciate what he said about me but I also know I've got to keep working hard.
"I watch everybody, man. But AP is a physical runner and I definitely like to be physical, so I'd say we probably have the same mindset."
Gurley is one of the top players in his position plying his trade today but, frighteningly for the rest of the NFL's teams - and most immediately the Giants - he believes he can still get better.
"I've definitely been working on my routes and catching," he reveals. "I'm also letting the whole game slow down and come to me. Defences are going to focus on stopping me, it's the same as last year. But I have to treat every game the same: execute and win."
