Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan in MVP contention
Friday 4 November 2016 09:09, UK
Matt Ryan threw four touchdown passes and avoided interception as the Atlanta Falcons dominated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The quarterback completed 74 per cent of passes, finding four different receivers for touchdowns in their 43-28 road victory. In doing so, Ryan became the first QB in franchise history to throw four TD passes and zero picks in three separate games.
It has been an incredible year for the nine-year veteran, who has become a regular in the conversation for season MVP. The Atlanta offence lead the league in yards and points scored, and it is the Falcons who are 6-3, three games clear at the top of the NFC South.
It is a great turnaround for Ryan, who already has more touchdown passes (23) than the 21 amassed throughout the whole of last year. The Falcons have not made the play-offs for three years but with Ryan performing at his best, the post season is an attainable target.
The improvement in production could be down to a second year with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, who has allowed Ryan to run a no-huddle more often, with the whole attack looking in more command of the playbook.
If Ryan can continue this productivity through to the end of the season, it will be hard to pick against him.
