The San Francisco 49ers have signed free-agent defensive tackle Earl Mitchell to a $16m, four-year contract.

The team announced the deal on Saturday, a day after both parties agreed on the terms of the contract.

Mitchell was released earlier this month by the Miami Dolphins and made a decision to sign with the 49ers after also meeting with Seattle, Atlanta and Denver.
