Odell Beckham Jr insists his recent absence from New York Giants' voluntary mini-camp was not a play ahead of any contract negotiations.

The 24-year-old wide receiver spoke to reporters after returning to training earlier this week and among the questions, he was asked about missing 10 days of voluntary Organised Team Activity (OTA).

Beckham Jr was quick to play down reports that it was a show of force, insisting he was going through drills with his personal trainer in California.

Talk of new contract terms will continue to rumble on, and will do for as long as he remains on the rookie four-year deal he signed having been the 12th overall pick by the Giants in the 2014 Draft.

Beckham Jr is among the best of the receivers in NFL and can expect a significant increase when talks do begin on a new contract, after the Giants picked up the fifth-year option on his current deal before the deadline earlier this year.

Having returning to training, Beckham Jr is happy to leave any prospective contract talks in the hands of his representatives while he focuses on preparations for the new season.

"Right now is really not the time to discuss it," said Beckham Jr. "When it comes it will come.

"I come here to play football. I don't really write the contract, I don't really design it or anything like that.

"My agent knows 10 times more about it than I do. I just come here to do what I've always done, which is play football and do the very best I can on the field and like I said, the rest will take care of itself."
