New England Patriots agree three-year deal with QB Brian Hoyer

The New England Patriots have agreed a three-year deal with veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer to back up Tom Brady.
The move was expected after Jimmy Garoppolo was traded to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2018 second-round pick earlier this week.
Garoppolo's arrival in the Bay Area prompted the 49ers to release Hoyer, who had been surpassed on the depth chart by rookie C. J. Beathard after starting the first six games of the season.
According to NFL.com's Ian Rapaport, the Green Bay Packers - who are currently without Aaron Rodgers - also made a push to sign Hoyer.
But Hoyer chose to return to the team he began his career with. The 32-year-old spent three seasons with Patriots as Brady's back-up after signing as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State in 2009.
Hoyer went on to play for the Arizona Cardinals (2012), Cleveland Browns (2013, 2014), Houston Texans (2015) and Chicago Bears (2016).
He has thrown for 9,853 yards during nine-year career with 48 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.
