Oklahoma University football quarterback Baker Mayfield was named the runaway winner of the Heisman Trophy on Saturday, the highest honour awarded annually to American college football players.
Mayfield was a consensus favourite to win the 2017 Heisman and those projections proved accurate when he became the sixth Oklahoma Sooner player to win the award.
The 22-year-old American from Austin, Texas received 732 first-place votes and 2,398 points to easily beat Stanford University running back Bryce Love.
Mayfield was also in the running last year but he finished third with 361 points, losing to eventual winner University of Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson.
This season, Mayfield completed 262 of 369 passes for 4,340 yards, with 41 touchdowns and five interceptions.
Mayfield became the third Sooners quarterback to win in the last 15 seasons. Jason White won in 2003 and Sam Bradford won in 2008.
