Le'Veon Bell says contract talks progressing with Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell says he and the team have made significant progress on a contract extension and he believes a deal will be reached.

Bell played on a $12.1m franchise tag this season and would make approximately $14.5m if he were to be franchised again in 2018.

"I think where we were last year at this point, we're a lot further than we were last year. I think we'll eventually come to an agreement and hopefully everything goes well," Bell said after Wednesday's Pro Bowl practice.

"I'm happy and the Steelers are happy right now where we're at. Obviously, we have to continue to get it done."

Bell told ESPN earlier this month that he would consider retiring or sitting out the season if that were to happen.

"I hope it doesn't come to that, but I would definitely consider it," Bell said, stressing that the Steelers must show that they value him.

Bell rushed for 1,291 yards on 321 carries this season and also caught 85 passes for 655 yards. He scored 11 touchdowns - nine rushing and two receiving.

The 25-year-old has topped 1,200 rushing yards in three of his first five NFL campaigns.

Bell said Wednesday that he believes staying healthy this year is helping the process this time around.

"I think just because the fact that I had a good season," he said. "I came out of the season healthy. Maybe I feel like they needed to see some things and make sure everything was under wrap with me. I feel like I did everything the right way.

"Plus the way the coaches and front office talked to me, told me that we should be getting something done.

"Obviously, my head's up, I'm confident. I also want to get everything done. The quicker, the better."
