Los Angeles Rams defensive back Nickell Robey-Coleman plans to pay an NFL fine for a helmet-to-helmet hit on New Orleans receiver Tommylee Lewis in the NFC Championship game.

The NFL has fined Robey-Coleman a sum of $26,739 (£20,258) for the now-infamous hit in the Rams' 26-23 overtime win over the Saints.

Robey-Coleman told reporters on Friday night he had received the fine and said that he will pay it although he gave no indication whether he agreed with the sanction imposed upon him.

No flag was thrown by the officials when the hit occurred during a decisive fourth quarter drive for the Saints.

The no-call has sparked outrage among the Saints and their fans, including calls for a Super Bowl boycott. New Orleans coach Sean Payton said the referees "blew the call".
