Defensive end Jerry Hughes is staying in Buffalo after signing a five-year contract worth more than $45 million with the Bills a day before being eligible to become a free agent.
The Bills announced Monday morning that Hughes re-signed. A person familiar with negotiations provided the player's contract details and spoke on the condition of anonymity because the team did not release those figures.
Hughes passed up potentially more lucrative offers in free agency by electing to remain in Buffalo. The fifth-year player's career has blossomed the past two years since being acquired by the Bills in a trade with the Indianapolis.
The 2010 first-round draft pick had 10 sacks in each of the past two seasons after combining for five in his first three seasons with the Colts.
