NFL rule out second in London game due to financial worries
Wembley Stadium will not host a second NFL game next season after the league decided there was too much financial uncertainty to take the risk.
The Denver Broncos will face the San Francisco 49ers on October 31 in the NFL's now regular trip across the Atlantic.
A lot of talk surrounding a possible second game next season seemed to make sense, but it seems now that financial worries have forced a re-think.
The NFL is worried about the general financial climate, and also the uncertainty surrounding its collective bargaining agreement with the players for next season - meaning it is too much of a risk.
"Playing one game in the UK is a significant investment," the NFL said in a statement. "Playing a second game is an even bigger investment.
"As we considered this, the uncertainty related to the ongoing CBA discussions linked to the current global economic climate were critical factors in our decision not to play a second game in the UK."
Last year's meeting between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots was the most successful yet and the speed at which tickets sold meant that the NFL is keen to stage a second game in London as soon as financial conditions improve.
"Our ambition to bring a second game to the UK is as strong as ever," the NFL said. "Once the current uncertainty is resolved, we will be in a strong position to bring multiple games to our UK fanbase."
