Peyton Manning threw his 500th touchdown pass in the Denver Broncos' 41-20 victory over the previously unbeaten Arizona Cardinals.

Quarterback Manning connected with Julius Thomas for a seven-yard score in the first quarter for the milestone moment, meaning he joins Brett Favre as the only men to achieve the feat.

By the end of the game the five-time MVP was only five short of Favre's record of 508, having linked up again with tight end Thomas after a pair of touchdowns to wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, the second of them an 86-yarder.

The Cardinals - who arrived in Colorado off their bye week with a 3-0 record - kept themselves in touch in the first half thanks to a pair of field goals from Chandler Catanzaro and a five-yard TD run by Andre Ellington.

Ellington also scored again in the third quarter on an 81-yard pass from Logan Thomas, who had replaced the injury Drew Stanton at quarterback, to cut Denver's lead to 24-20.

However the Broncos went on to score 17 points without reply in the final quarter, their run climaxing with a seven-yard run into the end zone by Juwan Thompson with just under five minutes to play.

As well as losing Stanton, who was already replacing injured starter Carson Palmer under centre, Arizona also saw defensive end Calais Campbell leave the game early with a knee injury. The visitors gave up a total of 568 yards, the most they've allowed in 41 years.

Fake punt

Colin Kaepernick threw for 201 yards and a touchdown, Frank Gore ran for 107 yards and the San Francisco 49ers converted a fake punt to beat the Kansas City Chiefs 22-17 at Levi's Stadium.

The Chiefs led 10-3 after former 49ers quarterback Alex Smith found tight end Travis Kelce from two yards out to break the dedlock, with Cairo Santos then adding a field goal at the start of the second quarter.

They also found themselves 17-13 up early in the second half when Smith connected with De'Anthony Thomas, though they would fail to add to their points tally in the remainder of the contest.

San Francisco were indebted to kicker Phil Dawson for getting them the victory, with the fourth of his five field goals coming after a trick play. On fourth-and-1 from their own 29, the 49ers gave a direct snap to Craig Dahl for a three-yard run up the middle to keep the scoring drive alive.

Sunday's late game in week five saw the final unbeaten record disappear as the Cincinnati Bengals were crushed 43-17 by the New England Patriots.

Quarterback Tom Brady became just the sixth quarterback in NFL history to surpass 50,000 career passing yards and New England's (3-2) offense looked reborn, amassing 505 total yards.

It was a fine response following last week's 41-14 defeat to Kansas City, Tim Wright and Rob Gronkowski both catching touchdowns while Stevan Ridley found the end zone on the the ground.

Stephen Gostkowsk kicked four field goals, three of them in the fourth quarter, as the Pats pulled away from the Bengals. Cincinnati's Andy Dalton went 15-of-24 for 204 yards and two touchdowns, as well as being sacked for the first time this season.

"It was a long week," Brady - who completed 23 of 35 passes for 292 yards - admitted aftewards. "A lot of guys dug really deep this week, coming off a tough loss like we did."
