The NFL has confirmed the Week 12 game between the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets will now take place in Detroit on Monday.

The area has been hit by an historic early winter storm, with more than four feet of snow falling in the Orchard Park area this week - there is more to come according to the forecasters.

Although downtown Buffalo has not been as badly affected by the freak weather, the area is currently subject to numerous driving bans and issues of public safety mean the game will now be played at Ford Field in Detroit.

The Buffalo Bills have asked fans for help to clear their stadium of more than five feet of snow

NFL spokesman Michael Signora said: "Due to public safety concerns in light of the ongoing weather emergency in Western New York, Sunday's Jets-Bills game will not be played in Buffalo.

"We have been in contact with the public authorities and we realize the importance of all available public safety resources being available for the community at this difficult time. We are also in discussions with the team and the Red Cross on ways the NFL can support the community through this weather disaster."

The Bills have been unable to practice for the last two days and players have been receiving game plans from coach Doug Marrone and his staff digitally.
