A golden-goal from James Tindall gave England a 2-1 win over Belgium and with it the bronze medal at the EuroHockey Nations Championships.
Reading defender Richard Mantell had fired England ahead from a penalty corner in the sixth minute - his 49th goal for the country - but Alexandre De Paeuw pulled Belgium level after 42 minutes.
Surbiton forward Tindall provided the close-range finish five minutes into the extra-time period which earned England the consolation of third place in a tournament they won two years ago.
He picked up the scraps from close range after Nick Catlin had a shot saved by David Van Rysselberghe.
"Overall I'm pleased with what we've put together in this tournament," said head coach Jason Lee.
"We played particularly well in some games, although funnily enough today was probably our worst performance.
"But we hung in well after taking the game for long periods today. The group is in a good place so overall I'm happy with how things are."
