British hurdler star expects to challenge for gold in London
Dai Greene says the biggest expectation on him at London 2012 will come from his own desire to win the Olympic 400m hurdles title.
The Welshman is one of Team GB's top medal hopes at the Olympics, with his ultra-consistent racing seeing him pocket all of the major athletics medals in the world, apart from one.
Greene is the world champion, European champion and Commonwealth Games champion, and now only Olympic gold is left to complete a wonderful set of performances.
With so much riding on Greene's performance, he could be forgiven for feeling the pressure a bit as the start of the Olympics creeps ever closer, but he never seems one to let the nerves get to him.
Greene knows that expectation has only come about because of his winning streak though, and he also expects to claim gold at London 2012 - saying that what he has been putting in the long hours training for.
"There's certainly a big element of expectation from the nation - they've seen me winning the last few years and they expect me to do it again," Greene told
Sky Sports.
"But I expect to win, I don't run up the hills in the winter thinking it'd be great to win a silver or bronze, but as long as I do my best on the day I can leave the track happy I suppose."
A lot has been made of home field advantage for the British athletes, and Greene agrees that having 80,000 fans mostly cheering him on inside the Olympic Stadium will be a huge boost.
"It has to be a positive for any British athlete competing in such a massive stadium receiving the biggest cheer out of all the other athletes."
