Lucy Wadham is refusing to commit Le Reve to a campaign which would culminate in him making an appearance in next year's Crabbie's Grand National.

Although mentioning the possibility of the seven-year-old turning out in the Aintree spectacular in April earlier this year, the Newmarket handler has said that plans at this stage remain fluid.

Before entertaining the idea of a potential tilt at the Grand National, Wadham has identified the Grade Three Sodexo Gold Cup Handicap Chase at Ascot at the end of the month is to be the likely starting point for the gelded son of Milan, who was last seen finishing third in the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown in April.

Wadham said: "He galloped well on Friday and we will probably go for the Sodexo Gold Cup at Ascot on October 31.

"We might run him in the Becher Chase after that to see whether he takes to the National fences. That's the game plan.

"What I don't want to do is plan the whole season around the National if he doesn't like the fences. He has the size and scope, but you have got to have the aptitude for it."
