Norton misses Monday mounts with finger injury

Ted Durcan is expecting to return to action on Tuesday after escaping serious injury following a fall at Ascot on Sunday. The jockey was riding Anhar for Godolphin when the three-year-old suffered a fatal injury two and a half furlongs from home in the PwC Handicap. Durcan was stood down for the rest of the day but was reported to be none the worse for the spill on Monday morning. "I'm all right. I was obviously a little bit stiff on Sunday, but I woke up in the morning and was A1," he said. "I had no rides anyway on Monday so I expect to be riding at Newbury on Tuesday afternoon." Franny Norton will also return on Tuesday after injuring a hand at Musselburgh on Sunday. The jockey guided Red Roar to victory in the opening five-furlong handicap at the Scottish track, but strained a finger in the process. Norton's agent Ian Wardle is, however, hopeful he will be back in the saddle at Newbury on Tuesday. "He rode the first winner at Musselburgh but the horse actually hung quite violently and Franny has just strained one of his fingers," said Wardle. "He's got it on ice at the minute and he has just decided to be careful and not ride at Bath. "He hopes to be back on Tuesday."
