British raider fails to make impact

Dunaden, last year's Melbourne Cup winner, was hailed a "horse of a lifetime" following his stunning come-from-behind victory in the BMW Caulfield Cup. Despite having been saddled with joint-top weight, the Mikel Delzangles-trained six-year-old overcame an outside draw to power half a length clear of Alcopop under Craig Williams. All roads for Dunaden will again lead to Melbourne for the Flemington highlight on November 6. David Redvers, racing manager for owner Sheikh Fahad, tweeted: "Without doubt Dunaden is horse of a lifetime and to think Mikel's only concern last night was that he felt he was two pieces short of work. "Whilst in awe of Dunaden, must not forget that was some training performance and one brilliant ride from that draw. "Getting quite weepy now." Williams said: "There's nothing better than winning races like this but to enjoy it with a horse that I've got such a great affinity with and also the people around that make it that more special. "This horse's story is amazing and it's about him today." Fellow French raider Americain, the 2010 Melbourne Cup winner, was fourth, while the Luca Cumani-trained My Quest For Peace finished a creditable fifth. The Marco Botti-trained Jakkalberry suffered a difficult passage to the winning line under Colm O'Donoghue and could only finish 13th of the 18 runners.
