Jazzi Top triumphs in Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket

Jazzi Top earned a 14/1 Oaks quote from Sky Bet after a stylish win in the Tweenhills Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket.
The last two winners of this race, Talent and Taghroods went on to win at Epsom, but the 5/2 winner is not yet certain to tread the same path
It was quite a messy race, with fillies heading off in all directions going into The Dip but Frankie Dettori made a beeline for the new cutaway two and a half furlongs out.
Dermot Weld's Zannda was a persistent challenger with James Tate's Namhroodah also on the premises, but John Gosden's filly pulled stylishly clear for a length and a half win.
The 15/8 favourite Zannda was second, with outsider Amaze Me staying on well for third.
Gosden said: "This (10 furlongs) looks like her perfect trip right now, the second looks a nice filly and it was a good quality race and she quickened well.
"She'd been training well coming into this and I was hopeful of a good run.
"Her half-sister (Izzi Top) was third in the Oaks, but her best trip was a mile and a quarter. With this filly being by Danehill Dancer, we've got a slightly different pedigree to consider.
"We could not be more pleased with her and Frankie felt the trip was spot on. We'll keep all options open and discuss the situation."
Weld was left believing that he still has an Oaks filly on his hands despite Zannda's defeat.
“It looked like she was feeling the ground a bit but she was coming back at them in the closing stages and she is crying out for a mile-and-a-half,” said the trainer.
He added: “A bit of ease in the ground would suit her ideally so we'll see what happens and keep out options open but she is still very much a filly we are looking at running in an Oaks.
"The ground is normally quite quick as Ascot so that wouldn't suit her.”
Connections of the 81-rated Amaze Me were even more delighted to finish third under an inspired John Egan.
Trainer Nick Littmoden said: “We always thought she was a good filly. She shouldn't have got beaten at Wolverhampton last time, she made the running when she wasn't meant to but we haven't lost any faith in her.
“I think she's a mile-and-a-quarter filly on a flat track, but she's got more than enough pace to cope with dropping back to a mile.
“She doesn't have any immediate entries so we don't have any immediate plans to try and win a handicap but the good thing about running on a Sunday it gives us a bit of time if we do decide to try and find a race for her in the next couple of weeks.”
