Sheikh Mohammed's famous colours were back in the spotlight on Saturday, and they could be again at Leopardstown today.
1355 - Irish Stallion Farms E.b.f. Fillies Maiden Dermot Weld has trained three of the last five winners of this event and EVA'S TIME can continue the trend. A Guineas entry, the daughter of Monsun is held in high regard and is expected to improve on last month's promising debut over C&D where she just failed to catch the winner. With that experience under her belt she can open her account here. Compelling caught the eye staying on for third place over 6f at Naas on her debut and looks sure to appreciate today's extra furlong and Stylish One showed improvement for the step up to a mile last time but more is needed in this company. 1425 Jra Killavullan Stakes This could be a lucrative day for the in-form Dermot Weld and DUBAI PRINCE looks capable of providing his stable with another winner. An impressive five-length victor on his Gowran Park debut over a mile on yielding ground, his trainer stated afterwards that the son of Shamardal would appreciate a faster surface and he should get that here. Warning Flag has won his last two starts on the all-weather at Dundalk and his close-up second at Cork before that suggests a return to turf will not inconvenience him, while Ruling ran green on his successful debut over 6f at Naas and also has claims stepping up in trip. 1455 Horse Racing Ireland Pensioners Nursery Only two previous winners in this field including Thegondolier, who picked up a claiming race at Sligo back in August but has since been well beaten by PORT ELIZABETH. The latter finally got off the mark over 7f at the Curragh last time and David Wachman's filly should handle the expected quicker ground today. Suspect Device, Hangar Five, Mariner's Dream and Tower Hill Gate were all behind the selection at the Curragh and look up against it, but Ceist Nua ran her best race to date when beating three of these rivals to finish runner-up at Sligo last month and has to be considered along with the less exposed Baiadilla Beach. 1525 Irish Stallion Farms E.b.f. (c&g) Maiden Having won no less than nine of the last eleven runnings of this maiden race, it's difficult to get away from Aidan O'Brien's runners. He has four representatives here and the wisest move could be to stick with Johnny Murtagh's choice of PIRATE CHEST. Beaten only a whisker at Gowran Park in September, he ran flat when failing to land the odds on his latest start but is taken to make amends here. His Excellency and Tiz The Shot could prove best of the others with experience, with Notable Graduate worth keeping an eye on in the betting on his debut. 1555 Irish Blue Cross Handicap ASTRAKHAM made a pleasing comeback from a five month absence when fourth at Navan last week. That run should have blown any cobwebs away and the lightly-raced three-year-old could be ahead of the handicapper. Balladiene found only his stablemate too good when runner-up in this race last year. He ran well last time and, if the rains arrive, looks capable of making the frame once again. In contrast, Strandhill appears to need fast ground to show his best and is back on a winning mark, while Moby Dick and Little Bug are others suited to a quick surface and look worthy of consideration. 1625 Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap Final SUPER SAY made his belated racecourse debut in May this year and got off the mark in a maiden at Cork two runs later. An excellent third in a tough handicap on fast ground at the Curragh on his latest start, Andrew Oliver's four-year-old is 3lb higher in the weights here but is open to plenty of improvement and gets the nod. Wexford winner Hedaaya has been off the track since finishing runner-up over 1m2f here in June but has to come into the reckoning if fully tuned-up on her return and the same applies to Jim Bolger's Toraidhe, who showed some promise at the start of the season but has not raced since April. 1655 Trigo Stakes (listed) This looks a good opportunity for FAMOUS NAME. He was found wanting at the highest level on his last couple of starts at Woodbine and in the Irish Champion Stakes here but before that he had won his first three starts of the season at this track in both Listed and Group 3 company. He can defy penalties for those successes and return to winning ways back in this grade. Devoted To You had stablemate You'll Be Mine as well as Choose Me behind when second in a Group 3 at Gowran in September and could prove the biggest threat to the likely favourite, but it may also pay to keep an eye on the betting to see if either of the recent debut winners Ezali and Riynaaz are fancied to go well stepping up in class. 1725 Elmwood Handicap (55-80) The admirably consistent Denny Craine should run his race once again and Rainforest Magic looked a different proposition stepped up to today's distance for the first time at Galway in July. Dibella won her maiden over 1m4f on testing ground in September and appeared to handle a quicker surface earlier in the year but a chance is taken on another Aga Khan-owned filly in the shape of ALIWIYYA. Well beaten over shorter trips last season, she went down by only a short-head on her delayed reappearance over today's trip in September and, providing she copes with the likely fast ground, can get off the mark.
