Derby hero prepares for Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe

Authorized has begun his serious preparation ahead of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. The Derby hero has had his first workout for a month, having been confined to routine exercise since his victory in the Juddmonte International at York. And Frankie Dettori is likely to team up with the Peter Chapple-Hyam-trained colt on the gallops in the next week as the big race at Longchamp on 7th October approaches. "Frankie will come down and sit on him. I don't know exactly when, he'll come down probably next week some time," said the Newmarket-based handler. Authorized went seven-and-a-half furlongs on the Round Gallop at Newmarket on Tuesday with regular work rider Noel O'Connor on board.

Retirement

"He went nicely, as good as gold. We're very happy, everything's good. We'll just build up to the Arc now." added Chapple-Hyam. Authorized has hardened to 6-4 following the retirement through injury of Manduro following his victory in the Prix Foy at Longchamp and Chapple-Hyam sympathised with the connections of the Andre Fabre-trained five-year-old. "It's very sad. Obviously I've been through it all before so I know exactly what it's like, it kills you," he went on. "It doesn't matter how many times it happens or who it happens to whether it's Manduro or the worst horse in the yard it affects you and gets to you all the time."
