Mixed news for racing fans

Friday afternoon's meeting at Kelso will go ahead after passing a 7.30am inspection, but Sunday's card at Carlisle is off due to a waterlogged track. Kelso's clerk of the course Anthea Morshead delivered a positive bulletin after assessing conditions. She said: "It's icy but it did not really get into the ground so that was obviously good news. "It's going to be very testing ground but we are racing." The going is currently heavy, with racing set to commence at 12.40pm.

Drenched Carlisle abandon

The news from Carlisle was not so positive with Sunday's meeting already abandoned due to heavy recent rain. Clerk of the course Jonnie Fenwicke-Clennell made the decision after an 8.30am inspection on Friday morning. He said: "We did have a dry night but it's still not raceable today and it would not be raceable tomorrow. "We had 17 millimetres of rain on Thursday and in light of the forecast, we had to abandon as we are waterlogged in places. "From December 27 we have had just under four inches of rain."
