In depth

Flag Of Honour represent last year’s winning yard and the Ballydoyle colt has come into his own since stepping up to 1m6f and recording three consecutive victories culminating in the Irish St Leger. His form is superior to that of stablemates Cypress Creek and Sir Erec and already has a verdict over compatriot Thomas Hobson but though expected to turn out a top stayer next season this may prove beyond the three-year-old with STRADIVARIUS in the field. Beaten a length by Order Of St George in last year’s renewal, John Gosden’s colt is unbeaten this season recording Group 1 victories in the Ascot Gold Cup, with Mount Moriah and Desert Skyline both well beaten, and the Goodwood Cup before landing the odds in the Lonsdale Cup at York. He looks the one to beat once again.

Desert Skyline (IRE) 9-1 (9-3) Tracked leaders and keen, pushed along 4f out, outpaced over 2f out, plugged on into modest 4th towards finish, 4th of 7, 4 1/4l behind Young Rascal (9-0) at Newbury 1m 3f Grp 3 stks (1) sft in Sep.
