    Verdict

Most of these have something to prove, and it is with only a small degree of confidence that Glenfarclas Boy is selected to score over the likes of Red Hustler, Kadouko and Erin Alley. Like quite a few of his opponents, Glenfarclas Boy has a 'p' somewhere in his form figures, having failed to get round in extremely testing conditions at Newcastle last time, when he was one of the first beaten. That came as a surprise to his supporters after his sterling effort at Ayr on Boxing Day when he defied a 204-day absence to get the better of Just Sooty, the pair finishing a long way clear. It was noticeable at Newcastle that he hung his head to the right, and so Carlisle should suit him. Slightly better ground would as well, but he has the form to go close, with none of his rivals standing out. Ex-Irish Kadouko was successful over the course and distance for Howard Johnson last March, but has not reproduced anything like that form in three runs for John Gornwall. However, the return to this track might bring about improvement. Red Hustler was fifth to The Bajan Bandit no less here as a novice but makes too many mistakes. If Chris Grant can iron out his jumping, he would be capable of picking up a race of this nature. Time of Flight has topweight, while Erin Alley is six-pounds out of the handicap, and it really is a desperate contest to get involved in. Glenfarclas Boy is a hopeful selection.
