MONBEG DUDE produced the best performance of his career, answering concerns over his stamina and jumping, then fighting off the persistent challenge of Bradley. He was held up in the early stages and wasn't perfect at his fences, but he cut through the pack on the final circuit and few horses will have travelled so sweetly on the run to the second-last fence at the end of a three-and-a-half-mile contest. It breifly looked as if his effort was going to fall apart when Jamie Moore first asked him to go to the front, but he ultimately just got the better of a battle with Bradley, who lost little in defeat. The runner-up jumped better than most of his rivals, several of whom blundered their chances away, and kept on all the way to the line despite leaning in slightly on the winner under pressure. Thorough stayer Any Currency was working hard from some way out but kept on better than most, but Galaxy Rock and Harry The Viking both proved major disappointments - the latter cooking his own goose with a jolting error early on the final circuit.
