James Doyle: "The plan was to drop in and get some cover but he shot from the stalls like a bullet and rather than disappoint him, I let him stride on. It's a hard place for a two-year-old to make all the running and he got a bit lonely in front."

Angus Gold: "To me, Markaz did not help himself from the gates and still looked a bit green. He was slowly into stride and, down the hill at Goodwood, you are asking for trouble if you do that. He made up plenty of ground. It was annoying he had to challenge down the middle of the track because the winner came up the rail. George said he thought he had done enough when he got to the front on his side and that he didn't see the winner on the near side. We were beaten by the better horse on the day and it was a good performance. They have always thought a lot of Markaz and, if we can get him to be a little bit sharper out of the gates, he will be a nice horse."
