Super League: Huddersfield Giants v Salford Red Devils preview

Salford could have some fresh faces in their line-up on Saturday when they look to halt the rolling Huddersfield Giants when the two sides meet at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The Red Devils have included recent recruits Mason Caton-Brown, Josh Griffin and Kevin Locke in their 19-man squad, though it remains to be seen if any will be handed a debut.

Locke may be the most unlikely to feature, with coach Iestyn Harris perhaps not throwing the big-name recruit straight into the thick of the action after he only trained with his new team-mates for the first time on Wednesday.

Whoever is selected for Salford will have a tall order on their hands against the Giants, who have won nine of their last 10 outings and haven’t been beaten in the league at home since March 30.

Included in their current run is a win at the AJ Bell Stadium over their next opponents, Aaron Murphy grabbing a hat-trick of tries in a 42-22 triumph.

Murphy won’t get the chance to repeat the feat on home turf as he is not part of Huddersfield’s 19-man squad, coach Paul Anderson making no changes following the 26-22 victory away at Hull KR.

Ferres fit

Forward Brett Ferres picked up a quad muscle injury against the Robins but has recovered in time to keep his place in the party.

Despite having won four on the spin, hooker Luke Robinson insists Huddersfield will be taking nothing for granted against Salford as they jostle for a place in the top four ahead of the play-offs.

"Salford are a dangerous side," he told the club's official website. "They have a lot of talented people within their squad that will always pose a lot of questions defensively for any team.

"We would like to think that we will also ask them a few questions come Saturday afternoon.” 

The Red Devils find themselves in Super League’s version of no man’s land, sitting comfortably ahead of the two teams in danger of the drop yet well adrift of eighth place.

They have struggled particularly on their travels in 2014, their only successes away from home coming against the relegation-threatened duo of Bradford and London Broncos.
