Jenna Brooks has the latest from one of the most significant weekends of the NRL season, the Anzac Round including details on why George Burgess will miss England's Test against Samoa next week.

Burgess Ban

In round seven George Burgess escaped a charge for raising his elbows, but the South Sydney forward wasn't as lucky this week.

The England international has accepted a four game suspension for a 63rd minute shoulder charge on Brisbane's Anthony Milford during Friday's one-point defeat.

Burgess took the early guilty plea ruling him out until early June, including England's Test with Samoa next week.

It's his second charge of the season. The 25-year old was charged last month for elbowing Newcastle's Mitchell Barnett.

Friday's golden point defeat to the Broncos has prompted Rabbitohs chairman Nick Pappas to contact the NRL.

Pappas said the game was let down, after, what he believed were a number of controversial calls from the referees and bunker, which cost South Sydney the game.

One questionable decision involved Milford's match-winning field goal, with some suggesting he may have fumbled the ball in the lead-up.

Pappas told The Sunday Telegraph: "We are duty bound to our fans to take it up, but we will do it through formal channels and we'll do it respectfully."

Milford insists he had maintained control of the ball: "There was no doubt in my mind I caught that ball on the field goal.

"I caught it. And if I dropped it I wouldn't have hit it. I wouldn't even try to snap it."

Graham Interest

Could James Graham call Cronulla home next season?

The England international's future is uncertain after the Bulldogs reportedly signed Aaron Woods from the Tigers last week.

Despite being under contract with the Bulldogs until the end of next season, the Canterbury captain may be forced out of Belmore to make room in the salary cap for Woods.

Sharks coach Shane Flanagan admitted he was interested to see who falls out. "We're always interested in good players and if they become available, we'll definitely have a look at them," he said.

"James Graham, all those players if they do become available, we'll have a look and see if they fit our roster and our cap."

Titans shock Sharks

Joe Greenwood and Dan Sarginson helped the Gold Coast to a 16-12 victory over Cronulla on Saturday. It was just their second win of the season.

After six weeks on the sidelines with an ankle injury, Jarryd Hayne started at full-back, with Konrad Hurrell and Kevin Proctor also returning for the Titans. But it was the two English imports who set up the winning try in the 75th minute.

On the final tackle, Sarginson kicked the ball for Greenwood to pick it up and offload to Leivaha Pulu who touched down to complete the shock win.

After the game Hayne admitted his ankle has still not fully recovered. "The ankle's going to take about a month to come back to normal, but it's just about managing all the muscles around it," he said.

"It's just about going out there and making plays. You saw tonight that I don't have to be fully fit to be making plays. I think game-plan wise and structure wise it was really a highlight tonight."

Thurston Returns

Mal Meninga is set to name Johnathan Thurston in his Australia squad to take on New Zealand in next month's Test on Wednesday.

A calf injury has forced the star half-back to watch the Cowboys last two fixtures from the side-lines, but Thurston is expected to be fit to take on Parramatta on Friday.

Meninga told ABC Grandstand the Kangaroos are fortunate Thurston wants to play. "I know he's going to have a final run next Tuesday in the lead-up to the Friday game in the hope he might be right for the Cowboys. We'll take it from there," he said.

"We're picking the side on Wednesday, more than likely we'll pick him and see how it transpires."

The only two players unavailable from the Kangaroos side that beat the Kiwis in last year's Four Nations final are Matt Scott and Greg Inglis.
