Huddersfield Giants hooker Shaun Lunt insists the team need to start learning from their losses and capitalise on their strong positioning in Super League.

The Giants have performed well during the regular season recently after following up their League Leaders’ Shield success in 2013 with a third spot this time around.

However, their playoff record leaves a lot to be desired with the West Yorkshire team winning in just 11 of their 14 matches to do since first qualifying in 2007.

This time around they were drubbed 57-4 at Wigan and their season was over on Saturday following a stunning 18-16 home defeat to in-form Catalan Dragons on Saturday.

Lunt enjoyed Grand Final success after helping Leeds Rhinos to the title while on loan in 2012 and the 27-year-old is desperate for Huddersfield to get things right in the post season.

“That is something we need to overcome,” Lunt said of the club’s poor playoff record to the Yorkshire Post.

“All the top teams would have been in this position at some point. Wigan and Leeds – both fantastic sides – have not had success overnight and had to have their losses first. That makes you stronger.

“But it does just seem to me we’re not learning from our losses. I was very confident going in that if we’d have won on Friday we’d have a real good crack at getting to the Grand Final.

“I really thought we were going to win. That’s no disrespect to Catalan who were superb and deserved victory but we trained well all week and felt ready.

“It just shows if teams want it more they will win; they had more zest and were hungrier.”
