Sheffield scored two late tries to come from behind in a 28-24 win over Halifax at the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday.
With 13 minutes remaining, the Eagles were trailing 24-18 before tries from Quentin Laulu-Togagae and Robert Worrincy gave them the dramatic win.
The 78th-minute effort from Worringcy was his third of the game, with Patrick Walker also crossing the whitewash for the home side.
Steve Tyrer stood out for Halifax, converting all four tries - including one of his own - for a tally of 12 points in a disappointing late loss for the visitors.
The Championship rivals had each lost their opening two Super 8s matches and were desperate for a win to boost their promotion chances, which the Eagles claimed thanks to Halifax old-boy Worrincy's hat-trick.
The winger had earlier drawn Sheffield level after Adam Tangata's try had given Halifax the lead, an advantage restored by Steve Tyrer and then improved by Gareth Potts.
Pat Walker ensured the hosts went into half-time 18-12 behind and they were level when Worrincy went over for his second try.
Scott Murrell put Halifax back in front just before the hour mark but the Eagles dug deep and earned a vital victory after late tries from Quentin Laulu-Togagae and Worrincy.
