St Helens v Huddersfield Giants: Super League preview
Last Updated: 10/07/15 10:10pm
Huddersfield will go to reigning Super League champions St Helens full of confidence as they seek to "cement" their place in the top four, says coach Paul Anderson.
The fourth-placed Giants continue to fly under the radar but they have a chance to draw level with Saints with just two rounds left of the regular season.
Beaten in just one of their last 10 matches, Huddersfield have the best defensive record in the league while only leaders Leeds have a superior away record.
Anderson's men have lost just twice on their travels in Super League and are aiming for a fifth successive away win when they go to Langtree Park, where they pulled off a stunning 40-4 triumph in the opening match of the 2013 season.
Saints have lost just twice at home so far this year but they are coming off a 46-18 defeat at Leeds which coach Keiron Cunningham described as a "debacle".
Anderson, a former team-mate of Cunningham, said: "I know Kes well and he will have them fired up. He said he was embarrassed at Leeds and I know how he feels because I've been there myself. You always look for a response the week after.
"This is a chance to cement our place in the top four hopefully. Everybody seems to keep beating each other so if we can go to Saints and win, it would be massive, they're at home and they're the champions.
"We've got to make sure we give them the same headaches as Leeds. There is a lot of confidence in the group. We enjoy being together and winning is helpful."
Anderson will give a second appearance to 21-year-old prop Nathan Mason, who has been playing on dual-registration with League 1 club Oldham this year.
He replaces Anthony Mullally in the only change to the team that beat Hull KR. Second rower Brett Ferres remains suspended.
Australian full-back Adam Quinlan is set to make his Super League debut for Saints after arriving in the country on Monday.
Mark Percival became Saints' sixth-choice full-back of the season but the arrival of Quinlan will allow him to revert to his customary centre spot.
St Helens skipper Jon Wilkin sits out the game with a minor leg injury.
Cunningham apologised for his team's performance at Leeds last week and is expecting a response on home soil after undergoing some soul-searching.
"It is a big game this week and the Giants will be coming to play," he said.
"I'd like to think we aren't a bad side ourselves, though, despite what happened on Friday. I am more than confident if we turn up that we will be a tough side to beat.
"We have learnt a lot from that and have done some soul-searching over the weekend. We had a tough video session and have trained hard. The boys look sharp and on the money.”
