St Helens v Warrington Wolves: First Utility Super League preview
Last Updated: 30/05/15 1:07pm
Super League champions St Helens take on in-form Warrington on Sunday in another mouth-watering clash at the Magic Weekend.
Both sides come into the game in great form having won four of their last five to ensure they are looking up rather than down the table.
Saints are just three points behind leaders Leeds and will have their sights firmly set on usurping the Rhinos in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Warrington are fifth and look to have put their early season problems behind them to move to within three points of Wigan in third and only four behind Sunday’s opponents, St Helens.
Saints coach Kieron Cunningham has Jon Wilkin back from suspension but will be without Lewis Charnock due to a hand injury. Olly Davies comes in for Anthony Walker while Mark Percival is still out with a leg injury.
Joel Monaghan is back for Tony Smith’s Wolves after missing the win over Salford last weekend, replacing Kevin Penny in the 19-man squad. Otherwise Warrington are unchanged.
The previous fixture between the sides saw Saints emerge victorious at Langtree Park back in March, 32-24, with Adam Swift and Tommy Makinson among the try scorers.
However, the Wolves won 41-24 in Manchester during last season's Magic Weekend and Saints skipper Jon Wilkin is keen to avenge that defeat.
"I still have nightmares about it," he said. "When you play in a big game in a big stadium, a bad performance can live with you and our performance at Magic last year is certainly fuelling out preparation for this year.
"They spanked us so we owe them one."
St Helens squad: Tommy Makinson, Jordan Turner, Josh Jones, Adam Swift, Travis Burns, Mose Masoe, James Roby, Kyle Amor, Jon Wilkin, Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Alex Walmsley, Mark Flanagan, Luke Thompson, Greg Richards, Andre Savelio, Jack Ashworth, Olly Davies, Matty Fleming, Shannon McDonnell.
