Scotland coach Andy Robinson has called on his team to create "mayhem" in Tuesday's Test against Australia.
Robinson's side will be seeking their first win on Australian soil since 1982, although Scotland beat the Wallabies 9-8 the last time they met - at Murrayfield in 2009.
Robinson, who has named a youthful side for the one-off match in Newcastle, says the battle at the breakdown will be pivotal.
"We need to create a bit of mayhem there," he said. "We have to be really accurate inside our half, accurate defensively and accurate when we have got the ball.
"We have to contest the breakdown, that is why we are playing John Barclay at number eight. We have to put Australia under huge pressure in that area, we want to have a go at them, put pressure on Will Genia and slow Australia ball down.
"The only way to do that was playing Barclay and Ross Rennie together, who I think are our best two players over the ball."
Edinburgh's promising centre Matt Scott, 21, is handed his first start and there could be two more debutants off the bench in utility back Tom Brown and lock Tom Ryder.
Experimental side
The Wallabies also name a youthful and experimental side, with full-back Luke Moraham, centre Mike Harris, wing Joe Tomane, prop Dan Palmer and Waratahs back-row Dave Dennis all making their debuts.
With skipper James Horwill ruled out of the summer Test through injury, flanker David Pocock captains the side and Berrick Barnes has been given the reins at fly-half in the absence of the injured Quade Cooper.
Hooker Stephen Moore says the hosts are wary of the Scots: "We know they've had a really good preparation for this game - they've had two weeks together.
"There is a little bit of the unknown and we probably haven't had the time to have an in-depth review of the way they've played."
