Greig Tonks’ 73rd-minute penalty snatched a 27-24 Guinness PRO12 win for Edinburgh away to Treviso.
The visitors were made to work hard for their victory at Stadio Communale di Monigo after Treviso almost completed a stunning fightback.
Tonks, though, had to calm their nerves courtesy of his late kick after Edinburgh saw an 18-point advantage wiped out.
Fly-half Phil Burleigh got the visitors off to a superb start, touching down for a try after just four minutes, while Tonks booted the conversion and then added the extras when wing Damien Hoyland crossed eight minutes later.
Treviso could make little headway as Edinburgh bossed the opening quarter, although two Jayden Hayward penalties opened the Italian team's account, but a Tonks penalty and conversion of centre Sam Beard's touchdown ensured Edinburgh retained control.
Treviso knew they had to cut the deficit approaching half-time, and they delivered through a third Hayward penalty before centre Andrea Pratichetti claimed a try that Hayward converted.
Edinburgh had hooker Neil Cochrane in the sin-bin for the early stages of the second period and Treviso prospered in his absence when lock Duncan Naude scored another try before a Hayward penalty made it 24-24.
But the visitors had just enough left in the tank and Tonks came up trumps when it mattered to floor Treviso with his late clincher.
