South Africa scrum-half Fourie du Preez will lead the Bulls when they take on the Melbourne Rebels in Saturday's Super Rugby clash in Pretoria.
Du Preez last captained the side in a 32-31 defeat against the Brumbies in Canberra but he takes over from skipper Victor Matfield, who will start off the bench after a late recovery from a neck strain.
With Matfield missing, Danie Rossouw moves from flank to partner Bakkies Botha at lock, while Dewald Potgieter returns from injury to fill the No.7 jersey.
In other changes to the side, Bjorn Basson returns to the wing in place of Akona Ndungane and Gerhard van den Heever replaces Francois Hougaard, who drops to the bench.
Stegmann and full-back Zane Kirchner will play in their 50th Super Rugby matches for the Bulls.
Meanwhile, changes for the Rebels include versatile back Julian Huxley directing the Rebels from fly-half, replacing the injured James Hilgendorf.
Former Toulon back comes in on the wing for Peter Betham, while Afusipa Taumoepeau replaces Mark Gerrard in the centres.
Richard Kingi is back in the side at full-back after being stood down for one game, while Danny Cipriani has remained in Melbourne following his run-in with the club.
