Chiefs captain Mils Muliaina will return after four weeks out for the clash with the Crusaders on Friday.
Muliaina has been sidelined with a back injury suffered against the Rebels in March - but he has been passed fit to return.
The match will also see winger Sitiveni Sivivatu will pass former prop Michael Collins to become the Chiefs most-capped player.
There is mixed news for the Crusaders, with Dan Carter ruled out but Richie McCaw returning - albeit on the bench.
Carter has failed to recover from a hamstring injury, so Matt Berquist will continue in the No.10 jersey.
Owen Franks and Kahn Fotuali'i also come into the starting XV, with All Blacks captain McCaw set for his first appearance of the season.
