Former Saracens hooker Andy Kyriacou will attempt to fill the void left by Rory Best's injury when he lines up for Ulster against the Dragons.
Ulster captain Best is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after being told he needs surgery to rectify a neck injury.
Kyriacou gets first crack at the No.2 jersey, with Nigel Brady also vying for the chance.
Kyriacou's fellow new signing Dan Tuohy, who has joined from Exeter Chiefs, starts in the second row.
New coach Brian McLaughlin has been unable to include Stephen Ferris, with the Lions flanker rested.
