Argentina lock Esteban Lozada has recovered from injury to take his place in the Edinburgh line-up to face Munster.
The summer signing has been sidelined with a back complaint suffered in pre-season, however Lozada has been passed fit to partner Scott MacLeod in the second row.
Mark Robertson, Scott Newlands and Ross Rennie are also handed their first start of the new season, with coach Rob Moffat making four changes from the side that lost 34-23 to Cardiff Blues.
Alan MacDonald and Roddy Grant are both ruled out through injury, so former Scotland Under-20s Stuart McInally could make his first competitive appearance off the bench.
Moffat said: "We were clearly disappointed to lose against Cardiff, and the performance, overall, wasn't good enough, but having watched the game back a number of times, I'm happier than I was immediately after full-time.
"We actually played a lot of good stuff, but we gave ourselves plenty to do by conceding a couple of soft scores.
"What I want from the players this week is to do themselves justice with a more complete performance, and there's absolutely no doubt we'll need it against a side of the quality of Munster."
Away form
Munster coach Tony McGahan has resisted the urge to make major changes to his side for the trip to Edinburgh.
Having seen his side beat Aironi at Thomond Park in the opening match, McGahan has made just two changes to his line-up.
Both changes come in the pack, with the inclusion of Alan Quinlan in the back row meaning Donnacha Ryan will move in to the second row.
And McGahan is hoping his side can take their home form with them on the road.
McGahan said: "One of our big things this year is addressing our form on the road. If you want to do really well in this competition you need to.
"To that end, you need a strong focus. You have to take into account that things aren't going to go your way. That's the reality of it but you need to deal with it and get on with. So this weekend's game is about addressing that."
