Gloucester have handed Greg Somerville a place on the bench for Saturday's Heineken Cup return clash against Calvisano at Kingsholm.
The most capped prop in All Black history, Somerville will begin his two-and-a-half-year deal with the Cherry and Whites against the Italian side after completing his domestic season for Canterbury.
The 30-year-old has won 67 caps for the All Blacks following his Test debut against Tonga in 2000.
Somerville replaces Yann Thomas in Gloucester's 38-man Heineken Cup squad. Thomas is now de-registered.
"It's great to have someone of his calibre, reputation and experience in and around the squad and we are looking forward to introducing him to Gloucester," said coach Dean Ryan.
"We appreciate and understand the need to do this in the right way because Greg has just come off a very demanding domestic season at home. It's important we don't rush but he is a formidable option to have and will be a huge benefit to our group of props."
Cooper return
There will be one change to Gloucester's starting front row, where hooker Andy Titterrell will make his first start since Gloucester's 11-10 victory over Newcastle in the EDF Energy in November. He will partnered by props Alasdair Dickinson and Carlos Nieto.
Adam Eustace will also make a start at lock for the first time since the victory over the Falcons in place of Will James and will be partnered by Marco Bortolami, who scored a try in Gloucester's 40-17 victory in Italy last weekend.
Peter Buxton will continue at number six, while Apo Satala replaces Alasdair Strokosch at openside, Satala's last start was in the same position against Saracens, and Luke Narraway continues at number eight as Gloucester aim for their third European victory in four attempts.
In the backline, Gareth Cooper returns to the starting line-up for the first time since the autumn international window with Wales and will partner Ryan Lamb at half-back. It will be Lamb's fifth successive start at number ten.
Skipper Mike Tindall returns to the starting line-up following his first try of the season as a replacement last weekend and he will partner Matthew Watkins as Olly Barkley moves to the bench.
The back three of Lesley Vainikolo, Mark Foster and Olly Morgan remains intact.
On the bench, hooker Scott Lawson is joined by props Dave Young and Somerville. Lock Will James completes the forward options. Scrum-half Rory Lawson will be joined by Willie Walker and Barkley.
