The Reds have been forced to make a late change to their side to face the Chiefs in Saturday's Super 14 match at Suncorp Stadium, meaning wing Rod Davies will make his debut for Queensland.
The chances comes because Wallaby winger Peter Hynes pulled up early at training on Wednesday and will undergo an arthroscopy on his knee to determine the extent of the problem.
Head coach Phil Mooney says Hynes' injury appears to be a bone fragment that can be quickly removed, allowing Hynes to return to action within seven to 10 days.
"It's a great opportunity for Rod and we'll be looking to him to bring the same energy and enthusiasm to the side that other young players have done when given the chance to step up," Mooney said.
"We look forward to Rod making a real contribution to our performance against the Chiefs on Saturday night."
Davies joined the Reds this year following a two year stint with the Brisbane Broncos after leaving school. The Rockhampton product was an Australian Schools Rugby representative, playing in the same backline as Quade Cooper and Kurtley Beale in 2006.
His place on the bench will be taken by centre Charlie Fetoai.
Consistency
Chiefs coach Ian Foster has left his matchday 22 intact for their trip to Brisbane in round seven of the competition.
Foster has made just one change to the starting XV, as hooker Hika Elliot is elevated from the bench to take the number two jersey in a swap with Aled de Malmanche.
There are no other alterations to the squad that humbled the Blues 63-34 in Hamilton last weekend, the third consecutive win for the Chiefs, who now have a 50 per cent record, having started the season with three straight losses.
Foster says the team is looking forward to the challenge in Brisbane.
"The Reds will be confident after a win against the Sharks, as well as this, they will also be fresh from their bye," he told the Chiefs website.
"We have strung some consistent results together in the last few weeks. We know we have only achieved that by focusing on each week as it comes - the approach is no different this week."
