Injury to powerhouse centre Adrian Jacobs has forced the Sharks into a chance ahead of the visit of the Reds.
Springbok winger Odwa Ndungane comes into the starting XV for Jacobs, with the versatile Stefan Terblanche moving across to wear the No.13 jersey.
That means impressive youngster Patrick Lambie retains the full-back shirt, whiel England international Andy Goode continues at fly-half.
The Reds have bolstered their pack for the clash with the experienced Daniel Braid, Sean Hardman and Adam Byrnes all returning.
The trio have made more than 200 Super Rugby appearances between them, and they replace Leroy Houston, Saia Faingaa and Rob Simmons in the starting XV.
Coach Ewen McKenzie has also tweaked his backline with rugby league convert Will Chambers named at outside centre and Digby Ioane shifting to the wing.
